"Gay Flags Should not fly at Embassies" - pence

This week the State Department said that the only flag would be flying on the flagpoles of American Embassies, the American Flag. This means that during Pride Month, which takes place in June, the Gay Flag would not be flown with our nation’s flag. This decision was supported by the President and Vice President of the United States. According to Mike Pence, “I'm aware that the State Department indicated that on the flagpole of our American embassies, one flag should fly, and that's the American flag. And I support that.” As the situation has progressed, men and women on either side of the debate have been casting their opinions on why the Gay Flag should or should not be flown by American Embassies. Here’s why I agree with him.
As American’s we come around one basic idea, we’re American. At the end of the day, no matter your race, sex, beliefs, preferences, or favorite food, if you are an American citizen, “ born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and the State wherein they reside,” then you are represented by the American Flag. This means that when American Embassies are flying the flag of our people, they fly the flag that represents us all. Why should a country fly the flag of any special interest group? We don’t fly the flags for religious groups, ethnic groups, political activist groups, or any other special interest groups. Why does this group think they are more special than all the other groups? More importantly, why should this flag or any other flag be considered as high as the flag representing the nation as a whole? It doesn’t make sense, right?
Other groups are not calling for their flags flown with the U.S. Flag at Embassies, so why should one group have that right? The American Flag represents those who have fought and died to protect our rights to complain about what flag flies with the American Flag. So, before we get mad about our group’s flag not flying with the most note-worthy flag throughout the world *USA USA*, let’s think about if it’s really important. In the United States, we strive to welcome diversity. However, it does not make any sense to put diversity above unity.
