The alabama Abortion law, and what it means now.

Within the past week, there has been increasing discussion over the Alabama Abortion Law. With Democrats and Republicans taking sides on the issue, we are left to analyze and see what the implications of this law are, and how it could affect our nation. It is currently illegal to perform abortions in the state of Alabama as of Tuesday night, May 14th.

1. As a result of this law being passed, there is tension between the sovereignty of the state versus the federal government due to this not being an issue out side of concurrent powers.
2. Until sued and revoked by the federal government, this law is active. This means that one can be arrested for performing an abortion.
3. According to CNN Politic, Alabama will become the state with the country's most restrictive abortion law.
4. According to CNN Politic, the Alabama Abortion law will immediately become fodder for the swirling debate over if (and when) the Supreme Court might consider overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling.
5. According to State Rep Terri Collins, "This bill is about challenging Roe v. Wade and protecting the lives of the unborn, because an unborn baby is a person who deserves love and protection."
6. CNN Politics: "These laws will almost immediately be appealed and will join a growing list of cases that could arrive at the doorstep of the Supreme Court in the not-too-distant future."
7. Fox News: "Pro-life lawmakers in Alabama lit a national firestorm this week by approving a near-total ban on abortion and imposing harsh penalties on doctors who perform the procedure. But supporters of the legislation do not expect it to take effect without a fight -- and that's by design."
8. Fox News: "The bill's sponsor acknowledges the legislation is aimed at sparking a new Supreme Court review of the landmark Roe v. Wade."
